David Rockwell Collection for The Rug Company

Our firm has been collaborating with a renowned textile company since 2010, when we launched our first collection together of five rugs, a tapestry, and a cushion. Since that time we have continued to conceive of bold, contemporary rug designs in many different patterns, materials, and textures for this company. Together we are interested in rugs with a point of view and an artistic perspective. In celebration of our longstanding collaboration—and inspired by some of our “greatest hits”—we conceived of 6 new rug designs that juxtapose fine craftsmanship with state-of-the-art techniques; all are united by their abstract designs and neutral colors. For some, we played with the idea of overlapping translucency and rectangles of cool and warm metallic tones, as well as varying pile heights, creating geometric yet abstract compositions and dynamic textures. For another, we were inspired by natural light and its shimmering reflection across the surface of a bay, rendered in cool and warm grays. The fifth rug is a bamboo silk with a deep, rich indigo blue ombré that fades to white at its edges. Finally, the sixth rug was inspired by the spontaneous movement and flow of Japanese brushstrokes.
