Description
African design is widely known for its heavy lines, vibrant colors, and geometrical and organic patterns, but also for its unique animal skin prints. Up-and-coming, New-York-based interior designer Indira Lourenco addresses the challenge to re-interpret the Art-Deco chevron/zig-zag pattern for her “45 Degrees” collection and translates the essence of traditional African furniture into cutting-edge design in order to reflect today’s design vocabulary. Lourenco’s credenza measures 50” W X 18” D X 30” H and is encased in an acrylic-surfaced stand. The distinctive center is inspired by chevron patterns that are adapted into a chain of 45 degree rough shapes in order to create a delicate minimalist ensemble, resulting in contemporary furniture that is culturally relevant, yet functional. Its surface is made with a zebra print pattern and black lacquered face, showcased with striking brass handles. The Light and Dense piece is perfect for residential and commercial spaces, and can also be adapted to a wide range of materials and finishes. With all of the pieces in the “45 Degrees” collection, Lourenco plays with transparency and symmetric/asymmetric geometry in order to generate a striking relationship between light and shadow, as well as showcasing a personified ideal of grace and beauty.
