Description
In 2024, 3form made a groundbreaking advancement in sustainable manufacturing with the launch of Know New Plastic—an initiative combining mechanical recycling with revolutionary new molecular recycling methods to increase the amount of recycled content in the company’s materials. For over a decade, 3form has utilized mechanical recycling to make their flagship translucent resin material from 40% recycled content. In mechanical recycling, plastics are physically transformed without changing their chemical structure, limiting both the plastics suitable for the process and the number of times those plastics can be recycled. After years of research and innovation, 3form has successfully integrated molecular recycling technology into their manufacturing process, elevating the recycled content of their resin to 100% without compromising its renowned clarity or strength. With the new technology, 3form can process hard-to-recycle or degraded plastics into their original building blocks, allowing for infinite reuse without degradation. The Know New Plastic initiative launched with 100% Recycled Textures, a line of 25 three-dimensional patterns added to resin produced entirely from recycled content. 21 of the Textures are added to a single side of the resin, while 4 are added to both sides of the resin. Key environmental impacts include: – Waste Diversion: One 100% Recycled Texture panel diverts the equivalent of 3,296 plastic water bottles from the landfill—stacked on end, that's 7.2 times the height of the Statue of Liberty. – Reduced Carbon Emissions: Using molecularly recycled material in their Varia panels, 3form can reduce manufacturing emissions by 25% compared to virgin material. – For every 50,000 LBS of molecularly recycled material processed, 21,000 LBS or 10 Metric Tons of CO2 equivalent emissions are avoided. That's equivalent to the emissions from 23,636 miles driven in the average passenger vehicle or almost one trip around the earth (95% of the way).
